The hike down was ruff on the knees, but the views were amazing, including several encounters with Swiss cows, ringing their bells as they ate grass in the sun. See our steep decent back into the valley to the left. On the way down, I slipped and smashed my toe causing the nail to come off. I removed what was left of my toe nail and threw it at Ian, which in hindsight wasn't the right thing to do. He later asked me to not throw toe nails at him anymore. I agreed. This toe nail loss would prove to be an issue later in our journey.
Back in Engelberg, we caught the train east to Thun, a small city east of Interlaken on lake Thunersee. Ian loved the city. We arrived at 8pm with no hotel. After being turned away from a number of hotels we stumbled upon a cool hotel called Ellemantal with a awesome castle view for only $40 US (below). After talking with the locals, we discovered that tomorrow's mountain to tackle was Niederhorn.
