Back at Lauterbrunnen, we trained to Brig, a nice stop over city and crashed for the night.
WHAT ARE WE THINKING? We decide to change the scenery and try hiking the Italian Alps. A speedy train reaches Italy in 20 minutes and then culture shock. Gone are all the perfect trains, roads, stores, tourist information, and people that spoke English. We were in Damadosola, aka HELL. We checked into a flop-house dive hotel and began hiking. The trails, unlike Switzerland, were unmarked and overgrown with weeds. (Below is our one and only picture of Italy.) One hour of vertical climbing and we had to have another meeting. We came up with a new plan. First thing, we had a great pizza. Then we snuck back to the hotel, left our $25 US dollars that we owed for the room that we never slept in, and quickly sneeked out of the country to our salvation, ZERMATT (See next three pictures).
